I just got the new NOFX record, Frisbee. Without saying too much NOFX is one of my favourite bands and I really liked their previous record, their best in a while. A few songs instantly strikes me as hits and I have a feeling I will play this record a lot in the coming months.
One of the biggest mistakes of my life was giving away all my skate records when I was 16 or so, thinking that hardcore was so much more cool, but we all know it's not. Skate rules! Punk rules! NOFX rule!
I just got back from tonights show in Gothenburg. 50 people in attendance and a pretty good time. Commitment Crew played a really good set, one of the best I have seen them play. They opened up with "Rise above", the only cover of the night. Whatever heppened to playing covers?
Whenever Commitment Crew's LP hits the stores pick it up. I think they are the best hardcore band in Sweden (well, Hårda Tider might be better...) and they have a, for Sweden, original sound. Live they have never been as appreciated as I think they should be but it feels like kids are picking up on them.
Tomorrow there is a show in Gothenburg. It's a little bit late promoting it but whatever. My friends in Commitment Crew are playing so everyone should show up and support them. Other bands are The Effort, AYS and In I Elden. It's only 40sek so come out, watch a few band, buy records from me and have a good time.
More shows coming up:
August 11th: Soul Control Balance
August 29th: Dirty Money Hårda Tider Commitment Crew Stay Hungry
This is a new record but the songs aren’t new, it’s the compiled recording effort by the Belgian youth crew band. When their demo was released I was excited to see a fresh band step into the light. “Kid till death” was a great song that in a way summarizes the feeling of hardcore and at the same time brought Youth Of Today back to life. The 7’ that followed was alright but the band never took off in the way that I expected. I guess they didn’t have “it”. One Voice broke up and their legacy isn’t that much to speak of. Replaceable and third category youth crew and I honestly think that there are better new bands around that Crucial Response could have signed instead and done a 7’ with.
I would only recommend Break Free to kids that collect Crucial Response or youth crew records.
A few months ago I stumbled across a bunch of new interesting American bands. Of those Outlast from New Jersey stood out as the best sounding tribute to revival hardcore that I have heard in a long time. Never mind the name, this band is seriously good. If they still have demos make sure to get a hld of one as soon as possible. I got mine a month ago so it's possible they still have a few left.
I thought I´d start this blog again. I have a new zine in the works (the first issue of Law & Order out soon) but some of the things I write about just don't fit in with the agenda of that zine so I figured i´d write them here instead.
This past monay Have Heart played their last show in Sweden, ever. I told Patrick that I´d see him again at the reunion tour but he wouldn't hear of such talk. Anyway, it was an awesome show, besides all those "that guys" and the way the audience crowded the stage from start to finish despite the band´s dislike of it.
I always liked Have Heart, ever since they first released their demo six years ago. Even though I'm not a huge fan of their last record I have much respect for them. I think they disbanded the band at a good time I wish Patrick good luck in his career as a teacher.
