I don't want to point fingers at anyone, nor do I want to lose myself to pointless nostalgia. I would however like to share my view of what hardcore is supposed to be about. In my book the most important aspect of hardcore, or any music for that matter, is that it should be fun. For the most part these days hardcore is "okay", nothing more, nothing less. I'd like to see kids go off at shows in an spontanous act of excitment and energy, just for the fun of it. If we're able to get a positive message across at the same time that's even better.
One other aspect that I like to think of as uniqe for hardcore is that it's a movement of equals, we don't build up walls; we break them down!
A few weeks ago someone posted a video on
STOCKHOLM HARDCORE that in my mind summarized a lot of what hardcore means to me. I had never seen this video before but I was at the show and remember it well. The basic setup: LAST HOPE play "Hardcore pride" by TEN YARD FIGHT and it's open mic. Enjoy:
